Totsdance uses lively dance routines, fun games, toys and play equipment to enhance little children's imaginative view of the world around them.
"A really lovely course my boys have thoroughly enjoyed."
"I truly believe that your classes are wonderful for young children (not to mention the mums!). Totsdance gave my daughter the confidence to do things gradually on her own. She couldn't wait to come to your classes! I will definitely bring the baby too when she is older."
Totsdance is based on contemporary dance. Each class includes a warm-up, which introduces the basic concepts behind good technique in a fun and accessible way, followed by dance routines, travelling sequences and creative movement with a partner, or with play equipment.
At Totsdance, children develop not only physical skills, but transferable skills, such as observing, copying, listening for a signal, responding to instructions and sharing with other children – many of the skills they will need at school!
"It's a good workout! Friendly, interactive, fun and each week is different."
There are between 10 and 12 classes in a term - some activities and dance sequences are repeated regularly, so the children gain confidence through familiarity, but each class explores a new theme.
"Matilda looks forward to the class each week."
Yes! Adults and children join in together, because little children need positive support from a familiar adult – and it's more fun!
"It's fun sharing a structured creative activity with my children that I wouldn't do at home."
For Totsdance: Independance, adults can join in to begin with, but we aim to get the children dancing independently – most parents stay to watch, but some go and have a coffee!
"The class gives me ideas for what I can do at home with Harry."
We dance to music that makes us want to move, so the children get to hear a wide range of different sounds, old and new, from around the world.
"We love it – the variety of dances, the music and the relaxed approach."
Totsdance takes place in:
Totsdance is aimed at toddlers between 2 and 3 years, although children are welcome from 18 months and children up to 4 years old enjoy the classes too. Numbers are limited for the children's safety and there is often a waiting list for classes.
Totsdance: Independance is for children aged 2 to 4 years, with the aim of gradually getting the children to dance without their carer helping.
The class lasts 30 minutes, which is the concentration limit for most small children! In some venues there is social time after the class, where carers can have a cup of coffee and a chat while the children play.
"You cover a lot in half an hour – it's very structured and different each week."
Children should simply wear comfortable clothes they can move in, eg. leggings or tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt. You can purchase a Totsdance T-shirt from us!
For safety, please remove your child's outdoor shoes and socks and your own shoes and take full responsibility for your child at all times in the hall.
We don't offer a 'free trial class' because numbers in each class are limited for the children's safety. Children develop at different rates and some are naturally more confident than others. It's common for toddlers to observe before they join in something new, so a one-off trial can be misleading. They need to come regularly and meet the same children each week, so they can relax and develop their confidence.
"I like getting out and about in a safe environment. The twins have made great progress and it's good value for money."
Booking is by the term or half term (except Independance, which is termly bookings only, but we do offer a no obligation trial for this class!).
Sibling discount - siblings over 2 years are half price (siblings under 2 years are free).
Please see the relevant venue page for prices and times for your preferred class.
